The people of St John’s come from a variety of backgrounds but have common aims; to worship God, to care for one another and to reach out and help in the wider community.
The first part of the Sunday morning service is taken by one of several teams who try to make the theme relevant and entertaining to everyone of all ages. There are dramas, songs which may be signed, as well as pictures and music. Once a month the whole service is arranged for All Ages and the children can make as much noise as they want, playing musical instruments such as shakers and rattles as well as recorders and flutes. This may not be a classical sound but is much enjoyed by all! We get together for tea/coffee each Sunday after the service.
In addition we have close links with Carefree Living, an organisation helping those with learning difficulties and several of our members help with Causeway Prospect, some of the students attending our services and enjoying taking part.
We have a Market Stall in Stone High Street on the 1st Saturday of the month when we sell books and cards amongst other things and give out balloons to the children.
In the wider world we are supporting children in Africa who have been orphaned through Aids, they are supplied with clothes, books and food so that they can attend school. Money is raised through various events including a Retro Rock Evening. We do have someone ‘on site’ who overlooks the project to see that the money is put in the right areas.
There is a coffee morning once a month where people meet for a chat and, if they are quick enough, to buy some of the produce from the popular cake stall.
