Youth

We have a way of working within our youth team and we call it the 5 O’s. 
The 5 O’s Vision is:

• OUTREACH initially through a range of events such as sports, music, outdoor adventure or the arts. These maybe events put on nationally or locally by Christian or non Christian organisations. They might also be events organised by Circuit Youth.

• The next stage is about local churches being OPEN to talking with their local young people to discover what their particular needs are and then developing an OPEN provision that serves those needs.

• Having established a provision and begun building relationships we provide a number of OPTIONS. This involves advertising local Christian youth events, youth services, cell groups etc and encouraging young people to try them out if they want to. The emphasis is on voluntary participation – it’s about offering people a choice.

• Young people who opt for Christian based stuff might want to go further in their learning about the Christian faith and this is where the 4th stage comes in. This stage is about enabling young people to move ONWARDS in their journey. It’s about providing young people with the opportunity to explore the Christian faith more deeply by setting up specific cell groups or running Youth Alpha and/or similar courses.

The final part of the vision is about how we work with young people if they make the choice to be a Christian during any of the previous 4 stages. It’s about helping them to grow through an OUTWORKING of their new faith - the getting your hands dirty stage!!
